YRF Vs Multiplexes vows continue with TASHAN

TASHAN releases today and indications are there would only be select multiplexes across the country which would be screening this most awaited film of the season. Prominent multiplex chains like PVR, Adlabs and Inox amongst others do not feature TASHAN in their release plans, which makes SIRF as the only Bollywood film which sees an all India multiplex release today.

So what has gone wrong with the film's release plan? Apparently, yet again the revenue sharing issue has cropped up and just as has been in the case of so many major films coming from YRF and other major production houses, here too the agreement hasn't been reached till about a few hours before the release of TASHAN.

As per Sanjeev Kohli, Director and CEO Yash Raj Films, "YRF has not asked the multiplexes for any incremental terms from those concluded for last year. The terms being discussed are the same as those agreed upon for our films of last year".

Since 2007 was particularly bad for films coming from Yash Raj Films with AAJA NACHLE, LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG and JHOOM BARABAR JHOOM hardly turning out to be money spinners, aren't multiplexes justified in refusing to bend?

"As done in the past, YRF will compensate the multiplexes in the event that a film does not perform to expectation; we have done this last year as well", concludes Sanjeev Kohli.

With TASHAN carrying positive reports, the buzz being seemingly high and very positive advance booking at the centers where the plans have opened, chances are that there would be agreement soon. However, Friday seems to be dicey for the moment since print dispatch would take its own sweet time. Now one looks forward to what's in store once Saturday/Sunday arrives.

One thing is for sure though; if the film fetches positive reviews, it would certainly be heartbreaking if the film doesn't manage to expand its release over next few days.

Some of the other major YRF productions lined up for release this year are Kunal Kohli's THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC, Siddharth Anand's BACHNA AE HASEENO, Jugal Hansraj's ROADSIDE ROMEO and Aditya Chopra's RAB NE BANAA DI JODI.
